¡Bienvenidos a la clase de español!

Hola, soy profesora de español. Me llamo Rosemary Martin.

Welcome to our Spanish class! I am excited to get to know all of you and do all I can to help you learn not only how to speak Spanish, but to learn about the culture as well. I have high expectations for all of you, and know you can succeed in learning Spanish. Please come to class with a positive attitude and ready to learn and I know we will have a great year!

My expectations for you include the following:

1. Be on time and prepared when you come to class. Be in your seat and have your “trabajo rápido” and homework on your desk when the bell rings.

2. Be respectful to all students, teachers, guests in our classroom. Bullying, making fun of others will not be tolerated.

3. If you are absent you are responsible for the work you missed including quizzes and tests. Make arrangements with me to make up any tests or quizzes.

4. Participate in class.  Do not feel embarrassed to speak in Spanish or make mistakes. Not having materials will result in loss of participation points.

5. Turn in your work on time. Late classwork or homework will not receive full credit without an excused absence.

6. Use the bathroom before class. You will be given 3 hall passes for the semester; if you do not use them you will receive extra credit towards participation.

Although I have these expectations for you, as a class we will set ground rules for what is acceptable behavior.

Homework: Learning a language is a lot of fun, but it takes a lot of practice to learn! I will assign work the workbook that I will copy for you. Homework should be completed before arriving to class, and be on your desk before the bell rings for credit. Each homework assignment will be worth 5 points each.

*Although I might not remind you everyday reviewing vocabulary nightly is highly recommended.

Academic Integrity: I expect you to do your own work. Failure to do so will result in a referral, and phone call home. You will be asked to write in Spanish throughout the year and I ask that you create authentic work. Using a translating tool will not suffice.

Electronics: I know you all want to text your friends about how much fun you’re having in Señora Martín’s Spanish class, but save it for after class. There will be times when you will be allowed to use your electronic devices, but you must have approval from me, and use them in a responsible manner.

Classmates: If you are absent contact a classmate to get missing homework or classwork.

Tests and Quizzes: You will have both vocabulary and grammar quizzes as we work through the chapters (see your dates). Test will be given at the end of each chapter (about 13 days). Chapter tests include grammar, vocabulary, culture and listening questions.  Your grades are weighted by percentages in categories – homework, quizzes, tests, classwork, participation, etc…

Grading: Grades will be posted on EDU 2.0. You will need to enroll in the class, there is no enrollment code. I will try my best to keep grades up to date regularly. You will be graded on the following items:

  • Participation

  • Homework

  • Classwork

  • Projects

  • Quizzes

  • Tests

Grading scale: 90-100% A, 80-89% B, 70-79% C, 60-69% D

Again, I look forward to getting to know you all, and teach you about my culture. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to talk to me. I want to help you!
